mahdi3748343VP Mahdi stressed on the importance of concerted government efforts and the capacity to develop and modernize the health sector so as to achieve a quantum leap forward in the provision of health services and in the treatment of patients. In especially difficult cases that require expertise and trained staff and sophisticated equipment, more is needed to provide the quality of care that can save lives.

He said this during his meeting with a medical team who had conducted open-heart surgery for children in the heart surgery center in the city of Nasiriyah .The initiative has the full support of VP Mahdi " because of the exceptional circumstances during the recent decades, the country is in an urgent need to establish centers that offer advanced medical services for cases of incurable diseases. Procedures such as heart surgery for adults and children, and that Iraq is now suffering from a severe shortage in this area of medical expertise.

Whether in the number of medical centers or experienced medical staff in terms of which Iraq has only 22 doctors specialized in heart surgery, while does not have surgeons specialized in children's heart surgery. "

 

He praised the humanitarian efforts carried out by the visiting delegation headed by Doctor William Novak, who is the president of the World Open-heart who has performed 22 surgeries for Iraqi children suffering from heart problems during a period of two weeks of his stay at the Center for Cardiac Surgery in Nasiriyah.

He said that this team has done a great humanitarian deed, and noted that the country suffers from a dilemma which is the birth of approximately 11 thousand new cases of children with heart disease and this calls for concerted efforts and the need to provide potential material to rescue thousands of those children.

He also praised the considerable efforts undertaken by the medical team of the Iraqi Center for Heart Surgery in the city of Nasiriyah, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and the Council of the province of Dhi Qar and the local government to develop the Center and the training of cadres, and said that visits by the foreign medical teams to the center and other centers will help much in this area. Iraqi doctors began to develop their expertise and investigating medical achievements in their field.

Dr. William Novak expressed his thanks to VP Mahdi for facilitating the task of the group and said, "We are ready to provide support for a heart surgery center in Nasiriyah and other centers, and will go back again early next year for further surgeries."

It should be noted that the Development Board Council is an independent non-governmental organization supervised by VP Mahdi, which holds social and humanitarian activities in most provinces of the country, including the initiative of bringing in foreign medical teams to treat patients, especially from poor families.
