Several dozen legislator joined the initiative of Vice President Adel Abdul-Mahdi to come daily to the parliament building to put an end to the disruption of the House of Representatives and exercise its constitutional role in ending the impasse and forming the government. This impasse has crippled the country for more than five months.
Dozens of MPs from Aliraqiah list, Kurdistan alliance, and INA showed up on Sunday, August 29, 2010, at the CoR in solidarity with the initiative that VP Mahdi had initiated on August 24, 2010.
MPs from SOL, Altwafiq list, and other lists, announced their support and solidarity with VP Mahdi, and confirmed the constitutionality of his initiative to demand the convening of the House of Representatives and the election of the Speaker and his deputies. This was needed in order to end the crisis of the formation of the long-awaited government, which is at the center of a constitutional vacuum, and a cause for the deterioration of security.
