Vice President Adel Abdul Mahdi hosted on Wednesday, September 1, 2010, an Iftar dinner for Arab and foreign ambassadors to Iraq, in the presence of Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari.
VP Mahdi praised the effort of ambassadors and members of the various diplomatic missions in Iraq for their efforts to strengthen the prospects for cooperation and friendship between their countries and Iraq. He noted that the diplomatic corps had a significant contribution to the write-off of many of Iraqi debts from the legacy of the previous dictatorial regime.
VP Mahdi explained that the new Iraq is the Iraq of public freedoms and democracy, pluralism and peaceful transfer of power. The building of mutual trust with countries in the region and the world for the advancement of Iraq is an important key to securing Iraq's future.
VP Mahdi stressed that the process of government formation is close to be finalized and that the political blocs have made great efforts to form a government of national partnership.
The Ambassadors thanked Vice President and expressed the hope that Iraq will be more stable in the near future and will make significant strides toward prosperity and welfare of the Iraqi people. They stressed that they will make every effort to improve relations and cooperation of their countries with Iraq and help it overcome the political, security and economic ordeals.
